We have all been reading about addictions and the science around it; but an addiction is usually linked to a comfort zone. If you keep staying in that same spot and decide to quit, it will be difficult as this is now a habit your mind has associated with that surrounding. You should plan to get out for a week or more (depending on how long the hardest part of withdrawal might last) as soon as you realise you have such a problem. Basically, this moment is when you start ditching your closed friends or when you stop doing the important activities in your life to give more time to that activity! Or better, when you start feeling really annoyed at someone just because they wanted to catch up with you and you were in the middle of your ecstatic time! Many addictions such as as drug taking might involve doing it with a group of friends in the start but when it becomes a regular thing you do alone is when you know you need to take over control of your life.
Addictions are not only about drugs. There can be so many things we can get addicted to! A few of those to say are food, sex, television, porn, social networks, etc. The worse part is if you seek help from professionals, you are most likely to be prescribed pills which does you more bad than good…and which is another dangerous addiction trap!
I would strongly suggest people trying to get out of any kind of addiction to go for a small vacation a bit far from home for a few days. A change of atmosphere will motivate you to let go of some of those habits. Talking to others who support you, will also have a good effect on your willpower.
This is just a beginning. I should get back to writing more on this very soon.
All the best to all those out there trying to make their life a better one!
Just remember, you just have to fight it for just one more day and it will get easier!
